Gary Paulsen was born on May 17, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He played out a lot of time in the library because he had problems at home. He had a hard time in school too. He loves horses and dogs (he has many). He lives on a cattle farm in Becida, MN and also spends time in La Luz, New Mexico. He is married to an illustrator, Ruth Wright Paulsen. Gary Paulsen writes his books about things he has really experienced in his life. He really has been in a forced landing of a plane same in Hatchet. Mr. Paulsen has run the Iditarod too, like you will find in Dogsong. He was told not to write for male childs , but he did and has been precise successful. He writes on four day stretches, then takes a couple days off. He has been honored as a Newbery Honor Winner three times and has written more than than 80 books
